The main difference is technology.
The concept is the same – line of sight – however, Next Generation Wireless takes advantage of the latest technology to provide faster speeds than previously available.
Next Generation wireless offers the same characteristics of Fibre.
Latency of sub < 10ms and jitter of less than 5ms while offering extremely fast speeds.
Fibre to the home, while much better than DSL and cable, is a shared service. The connection will be shared with neighbouring residents, meaning the bandwidth you are offered will change and be reduced during peak hours.
Fibre to the home is a shared service, this means your connection will be shared with neighbouring residents.
The speed will change during peak hours and it is very unlikely you will get anything consistently close to 1Gbps. During Fibre repairs, your connection could be down for as long as a day.
Fusing glass takes a long time, and outages can occur frequently depending on construction and the distance from the main city connection.
Service availability is dependant on your individual location.
Next Gen Wireless is currently being rolled out in select locations. We recommend that you submit an inquiry today so we can check your address. If your location is not currently serviced with this technology, having your information helps us determine where to go next.
Tower requirements are dependant on your individual location.
Most customers are able to receive NWIC wireless internet by having our technicians mount a receiver to the top or side of their home or existing TV antenna tower.
If you’re located in an area that is surrounded by trees, sometimes a tower is required to receive signal.
We recommend that you submit an inquiry and request a location evaluation to learn if you require this or not.
Never!
Unlike some of our competitors, NWIC does not throttle internet speeds to any service.
We believe in an open web. If you can get it online, you can get it with NWIC!
The best way to do this is to first contact the NWIC team so we can get you in our system.
Once we have confirmed service availability, our team will coordinate an activation date that works for you.
If you’re switching to NWIC from another cable high-speed provider, you will need to contact your current provider and provide them with notice. Five business days is typically sufficient.
If you’re switching to NWIC from another technology (eg. DSL to NWIC Cable) we can activate your new service before you cancel your old service.
In all scenarios, we will coordinate with you to avoid any internet down time.
The cost is different due to the technology and infrastructure required for each service.
We aim to keep our prices as affordable as possible.

Yes!
Both our Cable High-Speed and Rural Wireless services support VoIP phone services. Please click here to view NWIC’s VoIP offering.
NWIC’s rural wireless high-speed internet utilizes point-to-point transmitters. These send wireless signals directly from our tower to your home receiver, ensuring maximum connectivity with low latency.
Other technologies (eg. Satellite, LTE) can sometimes cover more hard to reach areas, however they often cannot provide speeds comparable to NWIC.
It’s easy to use NWIC!
Cable Customers – To access our high-speed cable internet service, you will need a cable modem. These are available to rent directly from NWIC and you have the choice of our standard modem or modem + router combo with built-in Wifi.
Wireless Customers – Once installation is complete, you do not need to rent a Modem. You can simply connect to the NWIC receiver and access the web. If you do not have a computer and are only using a device like a table, you will need to purchase a wireless router to access Wifi.
Wifi & Routers – In either our cable or wireless service, you will likely want to connect a router. This will split your connection into multiple ports and provide Wifi throughout your home. If you choose Cable with the modem + router combo you do not need any additional equipment*.
*Required cables and coverage area subject to your unique home environment.
